According to the announcement, Users will get a Free Upgrade to Windows 8.1 option in the Windows 8 store itself. But many users have found nothing ! That’s not a bug. Actually, this controversy is all about the version update of an existing Windows 8 installation. Let me explain.
Users are not getting any free Windows 8.1 update option in Windows 8 Store, This is happening to the users in the two cases indicated below :
- You’re using your Windows 8 with automatic updates disabled
- You’ve not installed recent important Windows 8 updates (from Windows 8 Update Tool in Control Panel)
How to solve this and get a free upgrade option immediately ?
Recently, before the release of Windows 8.1, Microsoft revealed a small update patch ( known as the KB2871389 update ) to bridge the existing Windows 8 settings to its newer version. All you need to install that update from Windows 8 Updates. To get step by step instructions on installing this update.
Step 1 : Press Windows Logo Key to open your Windows 8 start screen. Now on that screen write the word “Updates” and it will open right pane of the search. Click the option called “Install Optional Updates” under the setting tab.
Step 2 : Now the next screen brings you the all available optional updates on your Windows 8 operating system. Here, you can find and install the KB2871389 update package manually. ( I recommend you to install all available updates to avoid the conflicts )
